Dollars Diamonds Paris Jean Books

Dollars and Diamonds is a rollicking ride through Brighton's high class clubs in Prada shoes and matching bag. The main character Jean is the narrator. From the beginning she confides the novel is about her relationship with Brad. But it is more than that! She takes you through the upscale club scene where the lifestyles of the rich sporting Chanel glasses and blue cocktail cigarettes are everyday.
But watch out because this is a hot ride too!
Did I say that two hot blondes were the main characters? Imagine tripping up a gorgeous Greek waiter then handcuffing him and taking him home. Get the picture?
And then there's Brad. OMG Brad!!!
And Bobette, the transvestite with whom Jean confides.
I won't give the ending away. I won't even say if Jean and Brad make it together.
All I'll say is "You've got to read this one!"

Dollars Diamonds Paris Jean Books Reviews

The book is written in the 1st person from the point of Jean who is the main character, the author does some wacky and wonderful descriptions of what goes on in Jean's life and Jean's friends, Tammy and Bobette, one of my favourite parts is by far the description of when Jean eats a banana at a dinner party, I had no idea so much fun could be had from eating a banana.

Funny and witty, the author has written the book is a very light style, and easy to read story, the thoughts of Jean are very complete, it is almost like you are inside her head, the writing is humorous and there are times when I laughed out loud which isn't something that happens often.
A good example of a chick lit book that covers shopping, sex, men and friendship among other things.
It took a long time to arrive at a decent sex scene though and there could have been more.
My favourite character is Bobette, she made me laugh with her antics and unusual lifestyle and there is a nice surprise at the end of the book which I hadn't seen coming.
My least favourite was Brad, he came across as a bit of a wimp with not much of a personality.
The best part of the book was the surprising weekend at the haunted house.
The cover is perfect, love it and I think it makes people want to buy the book.
I would recommend this book to anyone interested in chick lit fiction. I would probably read a sequel if one came out.
I had been reading a fair bit of science fiction lately and a romance and humour novel was just that refreshing something I needed! I got the book in the morning, and being a fast reader along with the fact that I couldn't put it down, I had it completely finished cover to cover by the afternoon.

Love love love the quote in the beginning! Motivational, inspiring! The first few lines of the starting chapter is quite catchy, especially for a female reader, as we have all at one point or other experienced the pain associated with the loss of a good pair of shoes (and designer ones at that!) But anyway the rest of the book is so relatable for women, as we go thru boys, girls' nights, and even Jean's dieting. There was plenty of girl talk and thoughts!

I couldn't help but love the characters, Jean, Tammy and Bobette. They each had their own particular ways of being witty and funny, their own unique styles, their own ups and downs. In Jean's thoughts you can hear everything, and it was all so normal as if they're all going through my own head. The other supporting characters were good as well, meaning the boys, although Brad did come across as being a bit lame.

The language used and the way of writing made this book very easy to read, as did the incredible narration efforts of the author. I am genuinely looking forward to a sequel or sequels!
As a Brighton native, I had this book recommended to me –why I’m not sure, as I’m a guy and chick-lit isn’t one of my usual reading pleasures, regardless of where it comes from.
Nonetheless, “Dollars and Diamonds” made me laugh consistently throughout, and while it's fairly typical of the genre, I have to admit, the characters and backdrop definitely ring true to me as Brighton-born.
It’s a light comedy and a straightforward enough story of three female friends (well, two female and one crossdesser) Jean, Tammy and Bobette, living a fabulous life of Prada shoes, partying and (ground-floor) penthouse apartments, shopping and enjoying the Brighton nightlife, all while never doing very much work to fund their lifestyles.

It has plenty to make me (and you) laugh throughout, with one of the trio of friends telling a drug dealer he should appear on Dragon’s Den; another getting her dog christened, with Bobette, the transvestite, as godmother/father; spending an intoxicated weekend in a haunted house, taking a cab round the corner to avoid walking in heels, and internet shopping for a Chihuahua as a present for the victim of an online scammer are some comic highlights.

Of course, being chick-lit, it’s mainly about the friends’ relationships and entertaining mishaps in the pursuit of them, including a cat that becomes enamoured of the christened dog, a date night spoiled by a medium, Jean passing takeaway Thai food off as her own cookery; arguments about shopping, an anniversary at McDonald's, endless catty remarks, and a plethora of typical rom-com style entanglements.
Besides the Brighton-based misadventures, the novel is driven forward by Jean’s relationship with a new man and their various attempts to spend quality time together and enjoy each others company away from the other chaotic happenings.
All of this is quite reminiscent of how unusual Brighton life really is, and Paris has a keen eye for the foibles and friendships of the people who live there (not that I know anyone who’s had identical experiences, but still).
The various comic strands build gradually to a surprising and sudden denouement, unexpected and a bit unrealistic, though perfectly in keeping with the characters and the environment.
I probably won’t become a dedicated reader of the genre, but I found it more than entertaining when on a long and gloomy train journey to Edinburgh.
Overall, this is a great read to relax with, to take on holiday, and to divert and make you laugh at any other time.
